JEMBE LAMAMA is a transformative initiative by L’Afrikana that empowers refugee and vulnerable women in Nairobi to lead sustainable agri-food production. By reducing food waste, creating green jobs, and strengthening local food systems, this project builds resilience where it is needed most. Your support will help turn agricultural knowledge into income, dignity, and lasting impact.
In Nairobi, a city rich in agricultural production, thousands of tons of fresh produce are lost every year due to lack of processing and storage systems, while vulnerable communities struggle to access affordable and nutritious food. At the same time, refugee women, despite possessing valuable agricultural skills, remain excluded from structured economic opportunities. JEMBE LAMAMA, an initiative by L’Afrikana Org, is designed to bridge this gap by building an inclusive agri-food value chain that transforms raw agricultural products into sustainable, market-ready goods. The project focuses on training refugee women and urban youth in food processing, cooperative management, and entrepreneurship, enabling them to generate income and become active contributors to the local economy. Through the establishment of small-scale processing units, the project will produce essential goods such as fortified flours, dried fruits and vegetables, juices, and other nutritious products tailored for urban markets. This approach not only reduces post-harvest losses but also ensures that affordable and healthy food reaches vulnerable populations. JEMBE LAMAMA goes beyond food production. It creates jobs, strengthens social cohesion between refugee and host communities, and builds a sustainable system that integrates humanitarian response with economic development. By investing in this initiative, you are directly supporting women-led resilience, local food security, and inclusive growth. Your contribution will fund essential equipment, training programs, raw materials, and community outreach efforts. With your support, we can launch a pilot unit, empower over 80 direct beneficiaries, and lay the foundation for a scalable model that can transform food systems across Nairobi and beyond. This is more than a donation; it is an investment in dignity, resilience, and sustainable futures.
